What’s this about? AYLBB is a story about two women, Moneé and Nahlia. They both work for a woman-owned skincare company that’s trying to compete with top brands. They are the only two black people there, so naturally become very close. They both have their own personal discoveries in their aroace identity and begin to bond over that. Moneé one day discovers a term online from spending most of day in tears racking her brain on if she had romantic feelings for Nahlia and if she was aromantic: Oriented aroace. Over time she begins to feel comfortable with the term and labels herself as oriented aroace lesbian, something she actually hides from Nahlia from fear of rejection. On the November after work do she actually asks Nahlia to be her queerplatonic lover to which Nahlia accepts out of pity, only vaguely understanding what she agreed to. The story continues on with both Moneé and Nahlia navigating underrepresented feelings together as the relationship goes on! I first began thinking about it as an idea for a movie from the lack of not just black sapphic content but queerplatonic content in media… so essentially I’m being the change I want to see!! This is like, half experiment half official thing, because I’ve been drawing these characters and writing about them personally for a long time but never actually finalized a completed storyline… which I still haven’t yet. I hate planning but I also hate organizing, so this is one of those things where I’ll write as I go but I’ll work on multiple chapters at a time!! I really hope you guys enjoy this as much as I do, this really means a lot to me!!
